1. Set up your Caregiver Portal Account

The Caregiver Portal is where you control the watch. You can use a browser on your phone or a computer, or the parent app. It's easiest to set up a watch using your phone.

2. Activate the SIM card

There is a SIM card in your box. To activate it, click the Activate button at the top of your Caregiver Portal page, or go to Settings > Plan. Enter the ICC ID number from the card in your box and follow the onscreen instructions.

Contacts

You need to add contacts to your child's Safelist, which will be the only numbers they can communicate with using their watch.

Tips + Tricks

Set permissions for image texting for each contact
Allow your child to do group texting, or not.
 Emergency Contacts are always available!

Apps

The Pinwheel Watch includes a few games and PinwheelGPT, a kid-friendly AI chat app that allows them to ask questions, make up stories and more.  Your child can use it with voice-to-text.

You will be able to see the chats in your Caregiver Portal -- both your child's questions and the AI's answers.

Schedules

Scheduling lets you make apps and contacts available at certain times. Since the watch has less distractions than a phone, a simple schedule will probably work, with just watch functions and emergency contacts available at school and overnight.

Create Modes

Use the  Create Mode  button to build a mode from scratch, or edit an existing mode

Select the apps and contacts your child can access in that Mode

Use the Daily Schedules section to insert Modes into a timeline.

Assign Daily Schedules to Calendar Dates

Daily schedules can be assigned to different types of days (e.g. school days, weekends, holidays, etc.).  In the calendar section, click the drop-down to apply a different saved schedule to that date; repeat as needed.

GPS location notifications

To receive notifications when your child departs or leaves a place, like home or school, set that place up as a Saved Location and turn on notifications.

On the dashboard, click Saved Locations and Add New. Find the address, set the radius and notifications preferences (how often to send them, etc.).

FAQs

I can't find my WiFi

Most modern routers broadcast on multiple "bands" - think of these as different radio frequencies. The most common are 2.4GHz and 5GHz. The Pinwheel Watch is not compatible with the 5GHz band. If your WiFi has multiple names, like

  • YourNetworkName_2.4G" or "YourNetworkName_2G"
  • "YourNetworkName_5G" or "YourNetworkName_5GHz"

Choose the one that says 2.4G. If you don't see that, your router might not be compatible with 2GHz (unlikely), or you may need to configure your router settings to "separate" the bands so you can see a 2G option. Check with your router's directions to see how to do this.

I can't press the Enter button after I type the WiFi password.

On some watches the keyboard covers up the Enter button. You can press the crown to dismiss the keyboard which will make it easier to see.
